On February 8, 2025 SWSBA celebrated the opening of their new exhibit at Phoenix’s North Mountain Preserve Visitor Center, “Seeds: The Foundation of Life, Hope for the Future”. The exhibit features small works of fruits, pods, and seeds found within North Mountain Preserve. The exhibit will be in place for a full year in the Visitor Center.
SWSBA has a long term ongoing relationship with North Mountain Preserve. SWSBA has a permanent exhibit at the visitor center featuring scientific illustrations of plants in the preserve. In 2013 SWSBA member Marsha Bennett initiated the permanent exhibition “Drawing Us Together” and at the ASBA conference in Pittsburgh received a grant for producing a video to accompany the exhibition. Marsha presented the video at the 2014 ASBA conference in Denver. An exhibit on pollinators created by SWSBA member Joyce Peters was added later as was an exhibit on scientific illustration featuring Wendy Hodgson. In 2014 SWSBA created a coloring book for sale in the Visitor Center Gift Shop and recently funded reprints of the book among other activities.
